How To Get What You Want To Get

Before going to the Spring Auto Show at the Southpoint Hotel & Casino I expected it to be a garage full of cars - old and new - nothing more. Not really of interest to me.

It did not have the promise of being anything spectacular at first, and it did not immediately occur to me that there's fun in the most unexpected places. Since I had made a promise to go with a friend -I know it seems ancient etiquette, but that's what Queens do - I kept my word. It turned out to be an unexpected surprise.

There I was in the middle of polished chrome and customized chassis inspecting an Oldsmobile Super 88 Deluxe Coupe and an Austin Healey. Then I was off to eye a Lamborghini and a Citroen 2CV(oh the memories of that one took me back to my 20-Somethings in Paris...... but, that story's for another day....). The 'deux cheveux' , or the duck, as we used to call it, was the actual car used in the Austin Powers movies.

Here I ran into a gent who had just bought his dream car - a 1940 Packard 120 Coupe customized with a chopped roof, purple flames and ground effect lights under the running boards and the hood. Whew, that thing was shiny!

But, I tell you, it was nothing compared to the fire in his eyes.
He came alive as he told me about his grand prize, and I was reminded of what true passion makes you feel like. He was alive as if by electricity.

He told everyone about the 'helluva deal' he got, coming all the way from California to find his prize. He loved the 'steal' he got and told me how he could've spent more than what the car actually went for. He was gushing with pride.

Whoah buddy, he was a super hero burning to speed away into the sunset on his dream wheels.

It was a great experience and it energized me just to be around him. I was reminded of how contagious true passion is. That's the feeling I get when I'm writing my monthly Insider Secrets of Las Vegas Newsletter.

My head starts to spin when I'm deciding what to take from the Royal Archives to fill into the newsletter. I realize I could write a book a month and still not cover all there is to tell.
